About me

SEEK AND YOU WILL FIND

Who am I?

Yes, that’s something I’ve been asking myself for years.
Now that I’m writing a piece about myself, I quickly think: “What am I actually supposed to say?”
I’ll just start at the beginning.

I was born in 1974, in Elspeet. If you know what the “Bible Belt” is, then you already have some idea of the environment I grew up in. I lived there until I was 42. After that, my husband and I decided to literally move to higher ground. Together with our three children, we moved to beautiful Drenthe.

Faith always played a major role in the family I grew up in. The Bible was read every day, we went to a conservative church, and I attended a Christian school. I knew many Bible stories, but I didn’t yet have a real relationship with God.

As a child, and later on as well, I had many questions. In the church and circles I was part of, I rarely received clear answers. We went looking for “the right church.” But I’ve come to realize: the perfect church does not exist. Churches are led by people, and people make mistakes.

Eventually my husband and I ended up in the Messianic movement. Maybe that doesn’t mean anything. It is a way of believing in which Jesus (or Yeshua) is central as Savior and in which the Jewish roots of the faith are also valued.

We read the entire Bible as one whole. And we try not only to believe in Jesus, but also to live as He lived. We keep the Sabbath, not out of obligation, but out of love. It helps us to live closer to God.

In this community, my husband and I were also baptized by immersion. A conscious choice, not out of tradition, but because we wanted to give our lives to God.

My desire is for the gospel to be made known. For more people to discover who God is. That He is also seeking you, because He loves you.

Maybe, just like I once did, there are many questions. Maybe there has been disappointment in churches or in people. But there is a message not to give up. God is not a harsh judge, but a loving Father. Jesus says: “I am the Way, the Truth and the Life.” That way is open, also for you.

There is nothing that needs to be earned. No perfect faith, no perfect life. Only an open heart.
Seek… and you will find.
Knock… and it will be opened.
